AIBE (Associazione fra le Banche Estere in Italia – Association of the Foreign Banks operating in Italy) was founded in 1984, replacing the “Club of Foreign Banks” existing since 1978. AIBE is a voluntary, non-governmental organization whose constitution is regulated by the Italian law (art. 36 c.c.), whose main purpose is to protect the interests of its members and foster their growth and cooperation, as well as to study and develop the most relevant opportunities and matters of concern in the industry.

AIBE’s general secretariat deals with: relations with the Italian Central Bank, ABI, Consob; relations with the press, governmental agencies and Ministries, other associations, and academic authorities; in addition, the general secretariat organizes conventions and meetings covering specific themes of interest for the banking sector, and monitors the following technical commissions: regulatory & compliance, human resources, operations/back office, public relations, general services & retail, legal & fiscal affairs.
